Why solar suits businesses
Most businesses use the bulk of their electricity during the day, when solar panels generate. That means more of the power is used on site rather than exported, which is where the biggest savings are.
- Lower daytime electricity bills and less exposure to price rises
- Spare power exported to the grid on an export tariff
- A visible step towards your sustainability and net zero commitments
- Optional battery storage to cover early evening use
How a commercial project works
- Site survey. Roof type, condition and access, your electricity use (half-hourly data if you have it) and the incoming supply.
- Design and quote. System size, layout and expected generation, with a fixed written quote.
- Approvals. Network operator application (usually G99 for larger systems), and a structural check of the roof where needed.
- Installation. Planned around your opening hours, with safe access and minimal disruption.
- Handover and aftercare. Certificates, monitoring and an optional maintenance plan.
Costs and VAT
Commercial systems are priced by quote after a site survey, because roofs and electricity use vary so much. Business installations carry standard VAT, which VAT-registered businesses can usually reclaim. Solar equipment may also qualify for capital allowances; check with your accountant.
Questions
How big a system can my business have?
It depends on usable roof space, your daytime electricity use and what the local network can take. We work this out at the site survey.
Do I need permission from the network operator?
Most commercial systems need G99 approval before installation. We prepare and submit the application.
Can you install on a flat roof?
Yes. Flat roofs use angled frames, held by ballast or fixings depending on the roof structure.
